- Devil's Martini wa a great place to go to a few years and it's still one of the best places to go to now in Toronto
for an older unpretentious good looking crowd. The crowd at Devil's Martini is about 25-35 and looks as if it consisted mostly
of young professionals. The cover for Friday was only $5, yeah $5!! Considering every other nightclub nearby charges $20,
this was a serious bonus. The drink prices were average, between $5-$8 and the customer service in terms of getting the drink
was pretty quick, no complaints.
The only con about Devil's Martini is that it's hidden in an alleyway and if you've never been to the place, it'll take you a
while to find it but once you do, it'll be well worth it.
Overall Rating for Devil's Martini: 9/10.

- So my girlfriends and I decided to visit Devil's Martini in Toronto last Friday. When we arrived, there was a bit of a line up but the club did a great
job of managing the line rather quickly, probably waited in line for about 10-12 minutes. We got into the club about 11:30 and it was pretty busy,
a lot busier then I had thought considering this club is an older club.
The crowd at devil's martini seems to be a mature good looking unpretentious crowd. The music I must admit was more house then I would have liked to hear but it was
still okay, no major complaints. Overall, I would definetely come back to this club.
Overall rating for Devil's Martini: 8/10.

On a recent tip from a friend, I heard that the old Devil's Martini (123 Simcoe) had re-emerged at the old Helium and MFN. Since
it was one of my favorite watering holes a few years back, it necessitated an investigation.
Location/Club :
On Adelaide east of Bathurst and within walking distance to King St. Somewhat far from the central clubbing core. Getting
into the bar is somewhat of a hassel since for some reason the entrances at Adelaide are closed and you have to walk around to
the back alley to enter. Bouncer was surprisingly friendly which I have to say goes for the majority of staff I encountered.
Once inside for old fans of the D.M. there are hints and influences of the old club but it's been re-invented in a more
modern, clean look. Definitely a lounge-club feel (aka Indian Motorcycle) but a little more open with a number of sitting areas.
One major bar spaning the length of the room with a second at the end of the club near the pool table(s) area and a third
downstairs in what I would call a rest area which is quieter and near the restrooms. Major dance floor opposite the main bar
with a upper dance floor/stage behind the DJ area. Drinks-no drink specials while we were there and beers and coolers were in
the 4-6 dollar range.
Clientle for Devil's Martini:
I heard that they're trying to cater to the young urban professionals and the 25 and over crowd. When we arrived, it was
relatively dead and my buddy and I feared a "sausage-factory" but it picked up slowly through the night. Bouncer told us that the
busy nights were Thursday and Saturday. There was no dress code, however people were fairly dressed up in what I would consider
smart-professional-casual. No real trashy-wear or uber-boys there but like anything there were exceptions. For the guys, it would
appear that the night we went there were more girls than guys roughly 2:1 but that's a real rough estimate. People were generally
friendly with little or no attitude that I could feel. To those interested, there were some definate eye candy. As for the guys
there I can only comment that my buddy and I looked good.
Music for Devil's Martini:
One of the major cons about this place. Really unusal mix initially with lots of what I would call old school "puti" music
but it did pick up later in the night with lots of current popular R&B/hiphop/dance tracts...I guess it's a DM tradition but the
inclusion of Spirit of the West's Home for a Rest caused a little stir in the club.
Summary for Devil's Martini:
One of the main reasons I enjoyed the old Devil's Martini was that it was always our "Fall-back" place (everyone has to have
one) where you go if everything else sucked or after you couldn't get in anywhere else. While I could see this place as being
that, its somewhat far from the central club core and it would necessitate driving and finding parking again. It generally had
a good feel without a lot of the pretenciousness and "attitude" associated with other clubs (eg This is London, Easy & 5th) and
all-in-all I had a pretty good time. For those looking for a dance club feel, the place may not be for you.
Pros:
No cover
Friendly staff
Nice Atmosphere/layout
No "Sh!tter" boy (washroom attendant)
Nice clientle
Cons:
Music's a little suspect
Inconvienient entrance
Far from central core
