- We got there around 10:45. There was no lineup, we walked right in. No cover either.
The club wasn't overly busy at first. But by 12:30 the dance floor was packed. Upstairs still had more than enough room to move around and sit down on one of the many couches. The one nice thing about this club, because the dance floor is one floor below the lounge level the music is at a good volume upstairs to be able to talk to someone.
The music was all Hip Hop and R&B - all mainstream radio type stuff. Not my cup of tea but the crowd seemed to be enjoying it.
It's a fairly diverse crowd. Wide range of ages and backgrounds. Fairly even ratio of guys to girls. Friendly crowd to say the least. There is no real dress code so it has a very laid back feel. That being said most people were dressed causual stylish - if that makes sense.

- I went to Fez last week after a couple of years and feared it might have lost its laid-back, no-pretension feel I remembered. To my surprise, that Friday night was one of the best I've had in a long time. Everyone was there to have a good time, without any attitude. I was pleased to see a diverse crowd, reflecting a range of ethnicities, ages (college kids to mid 30s) and styles - THIS is what Toronto is all about! Drinks were reasonable, the music was fairly mainstream (DJ could have mixed in some more underground tracks, I don't think the crowd would have minded).
Dressed in jeans and runners, I would have been turned away from supposedly "upscale" clubs, but not only did Fez not discriminate...the men at the club were equally down to earth. I met some incredible people at the bar, who actually managed to compliment me without being slimy. Interesting how places with insane covers and strict dresscodes try to keep out the creeps (but can't) and a place like Fez doesn't have to try and still pulls in a quality crowd. I will definitely be going back soon and recommend smaller, relaxed joints over "attention-seeker" holes (like Shmooze, Easy) any day.
