  • Well people I went to a club called This is London(its an upscale club plays house, r&b, hip, top 40) last night.....just so you can get a feel about this club. Keep in mind I've been there before but I arrived with white women. This time I was with 3 other black women(no one was under 27 years old) and a one white. To be honest it was so packed outside this club that I don't think that they saw that one of my friends were white( which is besides the point). I work security in the club district and know a lot of doormen. One of them actually escorted my party and myself over to the club to make sure we got in. WE arrived he spoke to his friend and he said he's take care of us. We got to the door and he spoke to guy in charge of letting us pass by starting talking to the other guy in their language.....all of a sudden we couldn't get in...... as we stood there all sorts of people were being allowed in...they claimed that they were dealing with guest list and VIP....lol.....whatever! I asked for club courtesy and that we just wantedline by pass ....we didn't care that we had to pay....."we can't its so busy right now". I said" to the guy you realize how bad this looks right?!" He said "I know". I saw another guy that I knew and he came with a party of 10 people probably more majority white except one black woman....what topped this situation off for me is that in this establishment the women have to be 23 and up and the men 25.....I overheard them id the one guy in the group he was 19......HE GOT IN!!! The whole group got in and they were obviously not a list of any kind. Then I saw a doormen I worked with he tried to get us in and they wouldn't let him either ....he said "they are personal friends of mine let them in" ....they ignored him. I started to view the situation and really didn't want to think it was the case, but it was because I was with black girls. I was so pissed the last time a situation hit that hard was in highschool. Well needless to say I was planning to do ladies night there but that sure as hell isn't happening. SO IF YOU THINK THAT RACISTS CLUBS DON'T HAPPEN IN TORONTO DON'T BE STUPID!!!!!

    P.S. I AM PISSEDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!
IS THIS HOW THE CLUB SCENE RUNS IN TORONTO? WEEDING PEOPLE OUT BY RACE? SO CALLED CLASS?(WE ALL KNOW PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS PRETENDING TO BE SOMETHING THEY AREN'T) WEIGHT? ETC.

  • I went to the club Sept 24th. I got there at 11:30 and I was expecting a big line up, but luckily I got in with no problems. I really enjoyed the music; they were playing some good house, R&B and hip hop. There was a lot of people in the club and it seemed that there wasn't much place to dance. There was also smoking allowed in the club. I don't smoke and I was little annoyed with the idea that remains of cigarettes were left over on the floor and that was sticking to my shoes. When it comes to the cleanness of a washroom I was really amazed of how they kept the ladies' washroom so nice and neat. In all I really enjoyed the club, I just loved the music they played and I will definitely go there again.

  • Okay so it's almost a week late... but atleast it's here. Last week London had their yearly Flower Party. For those of you that don't know, London has a weekly theme in their club... a very well done theme. For the flower party they lay (real) grass down all over the top level of the club. It's really amazing. And then there's flower's and rose petals everwhere. It's gorgeous. We got there around 10:30. No problem getting in - but they were checking people in that night. (you have to have a Sigara membership as there's smoking allowed in the club). It seemed to fill up slow but once it did fill up you couldn't move. It's the most packed I've seen London in a long time. We tried to avoid the bottom level as much as possible because it took 20 minutes to walk from one side of the room to the other. And the dance floor.. there wasn't even a point in trying to get on it. Music was typical for london, typical but good. There's always a nice aray of tunes. From hiphop and R&b to AMAZING house sets and some old bar tunes thrown in here & there. Drinks aren't cheap - but they're not overly expensive either. Actually pretty moderate when you compare them to prices at other clubs. All in all it was a good night - it would have been a little bit better if it wasn't so packed. 7.5/10

  • I would like to say that I have been a regular repeat guest at this club for the last year and the half. I also have friends that have been going to "This is London" club for years.

Yesterday, last night (26 Feb), the establishment was very disorganized at the doors as always. I was on Staff Guest list, I was told to speak with the the head bouncer Marco (who always wears a black hat) and I was under the name Christina and Jen (friends of Steve the bartender uptairs) . When I would speak to Marco (head bouncer) he would ignore me totally and not even acknowledge me.

The Head Bouncer "Marco" made sure tho that all his buddy's got in and that all the "Blonds" got in! I changed my hair colour from blond to brown every now and then, and I find that whenever it was blond it was never a problem to get into this club.. however at this time I am a brunette. At one point Marco (the head bouncer) actually said out loud: "I want only ladies" to approach him and for him to let in, and I was standing right in front of him, so I said out loud " as far as I am concern I am and always have been a female".

Also in another occasion I was at This is London club and my friend ordered a Melon Ball drink from the Blond female bartender who is at the bar upstairs by the ladies washroom and she made the drink incorrectly, she had prepared the drink with: 1oz of Melon Liqueur and the rest orange juice....! Now I have taken the bartending course at the Bartending School of Ontario and I learned that in a Melon Ball drink there is 1oz of Vodka in that drink! So we called the bartender at that time and told her she was missing an 1oz of vodka in the drink and she went ahead prepared a shoot of vodka and wanted to charge us additionally for it!

I find that this Club is a very unprofessional, a disorganized establishment, and a lot of their staff is very rude and arregant! It doesn't matter wheather your on guest list or not...its all about how you look and who you know.. and at times who you know sometimes doesn't count for anything!

I would like to say that I will never step foot again in this club! Claudia C. Saturday October 30, 2004 I will have to say that I am extremely disappointed in this club. I kept reading review after review about how the bouncer picks and chooses good looking people to get in, but I still think otherwise, I keep thinking, it can't be THAT bad, can it?

I checked out the website, and I really think that this place looks awesome, so I really wanted to check it out. I signed up for a guestlist for me and my friend, and a lady confirmed with me by phone that I am on the guestlist, and that I have to be there by 10pm, and that dressing in a costume is encouraged. I was quite satisfied with the personal contact. My friend and I dressed up, I dressed up as a black angel, and my friend dressed up as an Egyptian princess. We arrived at 10pm last night (Oct 30th), and they were just opening up. There wasn't exactly a lineup, everyone were just hovering around the entrance. At around 10:10pm, the bouncers came out. The head bouncer held a clipboard with the guestlist, and he made the approval decisions. The "gate person" let the people, who were approved by the "head bouncer", to go through. There were a few others who just stood around. The head bouncer would look around the crowd and whenever he saw someone he liked, he would go out into the crowd to personally bring them by the gate. We waited for about 15 min before I went up to the head bouncer to tell him that my friend and I are on the guestlist. He looked at me, said okay, turned away and brought someone else in. My friend and I stood by the gate again to wait. Then there happened to be these two girls who dressed up as bunnies waiting behind us. One got the attention of the head bouncer, and she asked him whether they need to be on the guestlist or not in order to get in. The head bouncer took one look at them and he said, no, not really, but you two can come in. So they got let in. We still waited around, hoping that we could get in. My friend asked the "gate person" how we could get in, and the "gate person" said, you have to either know someone who works here, or you're on the guestlist.

Since we are on the guestlist, we waited. While we were waiting, my friend and I observed two things. One was, when the girls were walking into the door, there were two times when the head bouncer actually opened the jacket of the girls to check out what they were wearing. I was like, oh my goodness. The second one, almost everyone who got let into the club was mostly white people, and a few black people. I do not have anything against anyone, but one of the Chinese guys was trying to get in, but he didn't get let in. My friend and I are Chinese, we certainly like to check out nice classy clubs around town. But since they didn't welcome us there, I certainly do not have any interest to try it again. After an hour of waiting, my friend and I decided to go somewhere else. I was not impressed at all. It was very disorganized, very scrutinizing, very disrespectful, and extremely unprofessional. I feel sorry for whomever were still waiting outside the gate after we left. Amanda June 8, 2004 I had recently experienced "This is London" for the first time, a few weeks ago. I had heard great things about the club from cousins and friends, and let me tell you, it certainly lives up to it's reputation. After visiting the club, I decided to check out the reviews for the club, just by curiousity, to see what others thought of it. One writer emailed, "Every tanned , blonde , big breasted porno type girls were being let in, as well as anybody else that knew the security or was quote on quote , "vip"....And let me tell you that did not included probably hundreds of people...if you're an average no name joe like we were." I did not see any favourtism what so ever the night I arrived. Granted, we were a party of 7, and on the guestlist. And yes, it is true, if you take the time to make sure you are on the guestlist, it will be easier for you to enter the club that night. But make it easier on yourself, get on the guestlist. Or try and get in by waiting in line for 45 minutes. Which one would you do? The seven of us drove down from Niagara Falls to spend the weekend, and go out to celebrate my cousin's stagette, and had a great time. The food was great, and drinks were amazingly tasteful, and so were the gentlemen! Kind, sweet, and gorgeous!! And the ladies did not look like "big breasted porno type" they were all beautiful. I must say for my first experience of "This is London" it is an electrifing night that will never be forgotten! A BIG THANK YOU TO THE OWNERS OF "THIS IS LONDON" FOR CREATING A PLACE WHERE THE YOUNG, AND YOUNG AT HEART GET TOGETHER TO HAVE DRINK, EAT, HAVE FUN, AND PARTY!!

  • okay..so my friend and i were celebrating her graduation/going away party and this was our last time that we were going to see each other for a while...we've been planning to go to this is london for weeks, so we did put ourselves on the guest list, however two other people joined us last minute so we waited in the normal line up. We got there maybe at 10:15 or 10:20 ish..lineups were definitely forming, but since the club just opened at 10 , we figured it was going to move really fast and we werent worried..However , the story doesnt continue as you may assume..We were the witness of asshole security, only one in particular, i guess like the "head bouncer" or whatever..I'd really like to embarass him and give you his name , but i have too much class for that. The attitude of this one in particular was poor to say the least..Every tanned , blonde , big breasted porno type girls were being let in, as well as anybody else that new the security or was quote o! n quote , "vip"....And let me tell you that included probably hundreds of people...if you're an average no name joe like we were, however both of us are extremely attractive girls and we looked amazing, we still waited in this line up that barely moved..After about and hour and 45 minutes, a new bouncer came outside and asked us how many we were and let the four of us in..finally....i was wearing stilletto boots and i stayed in the exact same spot for nearly two hours! my feet were kiling me, and at the end of the night, i was in excruciating pain....had i got in earlier had some drinks and sat down, that wouldnt have happened..that just set the mood for the rest of the night..however we made the decision to wait, because we thought that the night would make up for all the waiting and attitude...

music was pretty good , and of course the female washrooms are amazing...but..i dont know about the crowd..we tried to hit on a few guys and failed miserably...like how often to two ! beautiful , attractive, intelligent , witty girls approach guys....never...guys are constantly complaining about how girls should initiate as well...Well, let me tell you that is my last time...the guys were snotty, almost rude, and not approachable...we just wanted to meet some new guys, maybe dance a little and have some good conversation....But no ! I'm sorry, i know this club caters to the posh crowd, but the attitude is a little much..I mean hello this isnt L.A....this is toronto ! enough with the attitude..i cant say i know for sure if i'll ever come back to this place..I probably wont make any big efforts i guess..We were looking to be treated with a little more class then what we received...and a good club will always treat the average person with the opportunity to have a magical night.! Something this is london does not do for the average person..

  • I was at This Is London about 3 weeks ago. I usually go about once a month. I luv it there!! Great music, great crowd (classy, mature, goodlooking), good service. The drinks are a bit pricey so I recommend drinking beforehand.

I definetly think you should check it out

  • Essentially when the space is fully complete, it will be 4 floors. The entrance is via the back alley off of peter just north of richmond (it's the alley right across from the entrance of society). This takes you into the main lobby with a cashier and fireplace to your left. As you turn right you can either go upstairs, across to the coatcheck, or down a small flight of stairs into the main room. This room includes one long bar on the east wall, a wine bar on the north side, a large dj booth in the north west corner and the dancefloor is in the centre. Both the lobby and main floor are carpeted except for the dancefloor which is finished wood. Much like easy and the fifth, there are luxurious sofas and antique furniture throughout the room to relax in. The design is simple yet elegant with no dance floor lighting except for a large mirror ball that hangs from the opening to the second floor. The dj booth has a bubble wall on the front much like the walls in the vip area of jet. Although this is not a full on dance club, the sound system is incredible. The dancefloor has speakers surrounding it with four bassbins (everything is hung from the ceiling). Through out the club (including the bathrooms) there are speakers and mini sub woofers everywhere so that the sound is superb no matter where you are. There is a staircase to the second floor at the southwest corner of the main floor, but if you take the one in the lobby you go up to a small open area. Across from these stairs there is another set going up to the third. As it is now, the third floor is a large women's bathroom which includes such features as a make up artist and mini hair salon (no extra charge). The upper lobby also takes you to the second floor. There is a slightly shorter bar than downstairs on the east wall. This room is not really a balcony like i mentioned before, but does have a large opening in the centre looking down on the dancefloor. This floor is not carpeted, but has a nice finished wood floor with more furniture. The fourth floor is under construction and I will let you know when it is finished. As mentioned earlier, it is for a 30+ crowd. Dress code is strict, but this is to ensure that those that come feel at home with the club and the crowd. The liquor on the rail is all premium, i.e. Bombay saphire is the gin, crown royal is the rye and all drinks are one and a quarter ounces. There is a full wine list and all the best champagnes. That's about it. Opening night was invite only with open bar and naturally was packed.
