- REVIEW FOR TONIC:
I went to Tonic with a few of my friends on Friday, February 17, 2006. Luckily, we
were on the guestlist so we didn't have to pay cover. We got there before 11, which
I usually hate doing because it's usually dead, but it wasn't too bad. Drinks are
pretty cheap. The staff is really good- the washroom attendants don't bother you. I
liked the style of the club, but the décor seemed like it was lacking in certain
places. The washroom might have looked really awesome (all white, with an elongated,
feng shui concept) at one time, but hoards of drunken underagers have really made it
go downhill. It wasn't filthy or anything, and there were tons of ammenities, but it
just didn't look like what they were going for. The colourfully lit walls are
awesome, and there's a raised platform in the middle of the dance floor, first full
of drunken girlies and then full of everyone and their cousin. I
loved the mix of music- it was a perfect blend of TOP 40 dance/hip hop and the house
club anthems. I, personally, love electronic music, so it was nice to be able to go
to a club that mixed it in. At one point in the night they set off these weird
sprinklers that were meant to cool you down, but didn't reallt get you wet, and they
dropped a bunch of confetti. They tried to time it perfectly with the climax of the
house track that was playing. This would have been reaaaaaally cool if I were on
some kind of trinket or had been dancing hard enough for this to be enjoyable...If
they would've done this later in the night, it would have been better. But still, it
was cool. By the end of the night the place was pretty full, but not too
overwhelming. The staff is really great, and there are absolutely no line-ups. The
music is good. The crowd isn't too bad- it's not a meet market like other
clubs I know. I suggest, because it seems kind of hit-and-miss, that you go with a
group of friends (like 6 or 8) on the guestlist. The music is great to dance to, so
I will definitely hit up Tonic again, but only if I'm with a bunch of friends and on
the guestlist.

- Went to Tonic last Saturday (May 28). Got there at around 11pm, no line up which was cool. Cover was 10 bucks, but the club was totally dead at that time. Just a few people standing around and no one was dancing. Good thing drinks were cheap, only $3.50 before midnight. As the club started to fill up, the crowd was really really white...hardly any diversity. Anyway, the club was pretty small, and only VIPs could go into the lounge area and sit down. Music started off as techno but changed to R&B/hip hop/pop. At first, girls badly outnumbered guys but towards the end of the night, there were tons of single guys lurking around.
Overall, not a bad night...I give Tonic a 7.5 out of 10. @
Music- good by my standards (hip hop, R&B, dance)
Crowd- young 20s, mostly white
Drinks- cheap before 12 (only 3.50 bucks)

- short lineup, moves at a decent pace and surprisingly the bouncers aren't pricks...decent mix of music, small crowd, small club....crowd is either 25-30 or under 19 with fake id's....some hotties in there, but nothing really amazing...it's the kinda place you go if you got a big group of people and don't wanna be bothered...drinks are cheap, bartenders are fast....they got some ghetto outdoor smoking tent because of the stupid new bylaw...they should get some heaters for it like they got in the line....overall a 7.5 out of 10

- Arrived around 11:15pm and there was not much of a line up. After 5 minutes or so walked in to a fairly busy club for that hour. The dance floor was busy.
Nothing has changed with the Fridays in a long time. Drinks still $3. (Best to go with beer than a mixed drink) DJ Lil' Pete still spinning, Chris Biggs still yapping on the mic and the crazy Nenad still drinking the back bar dry. (Thanks Nenad and Pete :smokin )
This night was not as much fun as usual at Tonic as there was too much hip hop, and not enough house. People were not as friendly as in other weeks. Maybe they were too sober!?! OR Maybe I'm getting too old! The ratio was fine. The place got quite busy but not full. There was still room to move around.
Left at 2:15am and struggled to get my intoxicated friend to the car and then to the cities best "street meat" vendor.
I'll go back, as I always do, to support my buds and have some $3 treats. Maybe Halloween will be a perfect time for a return.

- Got their around 11 30 and all the drama that occured trying to get in was pretty much bullshit. Eventually had to grease my way in. I think cover was 10
Club was not empty but it started to get rammed around 12- 12 30. Young university crowd in my opinion with the average age being 19 or 20. Style code is in effect but i saw many young 19ers wearing hats and shit. Music was a mix of everything you hear on z1035 but the music got me moving, so no complaints from me. Beer and mixed drinks were 3 bucks which is a total bonus. Drinks were okay but i must say were watered down. Only problem i had is that the bartender didnt give me my change back on two seperate occasions and basically just kept my change. Ratio of guy to girl was not bad and their were alot of woman lurking around. The atmosphere was great were everyone was friendly and people werent being snobby to you. You can actually go and talk to people without getting blown off. Place started to empty out around 2:15 and we left around 2:40
Pros: Friendly atmosphere, Drink Prices
Cons: Front doorman, Bartender keepin her change
Overall i had a good night at tonic alot better than i expected. A good place to get smashed on a friday night
7.5/10

- first off thanxs to trevor for the guestlist and the free drinks
so we get to tonic around 10:30, outside in line for 2 mins and we get in, still really early so not to busy and we get some decent spots to sit for the next hour to chillax
tonic has 2 rooms, one some room with euro and freestlye which was empty thru out the night, but a good place to go to cool down and get some air
then there was the main room, playing house and hiphop, normal top 40 music and this room was totally crowded thru out the night
crowd is a mix of everything. you have the hot broads who think they are gods gift to men, then u got the ugly broads who for some reason think they are gods gift, and then you have some fat broads who are trashed and falling over all over the place. but alot of bitch in the girls there, i got shoulders 3 times while walking cuz girls would just cut infront of me ???
anyways it was a fun night overall, wouldnt mind checking it out again

- Got there around 11-11:15 and the line-ups were long but moving fast.
When we got in the place was busy but not packed - yet. The dance floor was bumpin' and the bars were rows deep. What would you expect with $3 beverages?!?
The main room had DJ Mags spinning urban and house. The music was ok, until a killer long set of urban but was very good when, of all people, Chris Biggs (103.5 radio host) played some nice house music. Good effort, but....
The back room had its ups and downs with the number of people but again the bar was busy. The music was Euro and classic house which was sounding great. The only problem was the DJs were not very good. They got a bit better as the night went on.
The clientelle was a mix of all sorts with a bit too much sausage floating around. The dance floor was always packed but the stage in the middle was a pain in the neck.
The effects were all great (air, confetti, lights etc)
Lots of crazy stuff going on too. won't describe it as there might be too many minors reading this post.
I usually go to Tonic once a month to give my support to my buddy Nenad, but after this night I' ll go 2-3 times a month.
Two Thumbs UP!
