Very Disappointed at the Service
Submitted for AME Restaurant by Chona Wacha on May. 18, 2011
We had the worst server. She delayed our order and overheard one of us complaining about her. She later confronted us and called us rude customers and that her manager was unhappy with our table. Just the audacity and the lack of empathy by the manager when I complained was shocking. I would never go back. They had great food but terrible service from the server and a very muted and ineffective manager!

I have to start this by saying I am the type of person who never complains at a restaurant or writes about it afterwards (this is my first time doing this).
I brought a group of 12 friends to Ame (19 Mercer St.) for my birthday this past weekend. My displeasure started when making the reservation when we were told that we must have a set menu which I could understand for a group of 20+ people but for 12 really? The set menus start at $65/person and go up to $95/person and each guest had exactly the same thing.
At dinner when the food began to arrive neither the food runners nor the server described any of the items to anyone or explained that the 'set menu' is really a shared plate menu, two totally different things so we sat there for 5 minutes looking at each other not knowing what to do. The food tasted good but no one working there seemed to know what was going on. I also had two vegetarian guests who were provided special vegetarian items but when we all received what would be our 4th course they were told there was nothing more for them, this was the final straw and I was forced to go and complain.
My vegetarian friends were given another item and the manager bought the whole table champagne but it in no way makes up for the horrible experience I had. One of the reasons I was given for the shared plate thing was that their plates are too big to fit at individual settings? Really? That is their excuse for not informing anyone that the ‘set menu’ is really ‘shared plates’. If it were not for my fabulous friends the night would have been a total disaster.
I would not recommend or ever go back here and would caution you before going.
