Mecatto's Flagship location on Toronto Street began primarily as a fresh market with some home-cooked meals to be enjoyed via take-out or at a cosy bank of tables. It wasn't long, however, until increasing popularity and word-of-mouth bolstered Mercatto's growth into two full service restaurants. As Toronto's restaurant scene has matured and begun to attract more international attention, the Scarangella brothers have again risen to the occasion with an intensive top-to-bottom redesign of Mercatto.

Mercatto first made its mark on Toronto as a fresh market food shop; a cozy kitchen served primarily to provide the bustling downtown denizens with convenient takeout meals. Over time, Mercatto's fame and reputation grew, and demand for their festive, filling and fun dishes grew with it. Steadily, Mercatto has evolved into a thriving urban dinner location without the stuffiness and pretense that mars many downtown dining hotspots.

From sunrise onwards, Mercatto offers up classic Italian recipes with urbane flair. An espresso bar provides a morning jumpstart to hurried stockbrokers and screenwriters alike, and as the sun sets, many head back for a bubbling and raucous after work social.
